Our small woodland sites form the heart of what Cornwall Woodworks does. Currently, we manage seven woodlands in Cornwall most of which are ancient and have specific conservation interest. Woodland management begins with a survey that establishes which woodland features are of most value to wildlife and whether there are any species in the woods which require particular protection. A management plan is then written detailing what work needs to be done to make the most of these features. A sample management plan can be seen here. Any timber which is produced as a result of this work we can then often make use of in the form of construction timber, roundwood for furniture, charcoal or firewood. The rest is left as a new habitat. |
